A polarizing beam splitter plate and a system incorporating such a beam splitter plate are described. The polarizing beam splitter plate includes a first substrate and a multilayer optical film reflective polarizer disposed on the first substrate. The polarizing beam splitter plate includes a first outermost major surface and an opposite second outermost major surface angled less than about 20 degrees with the first outermost major surface. The polarizing beam splitter plate is configured to reflect imaged light received from the imager toward an observer or screen, wherein the reflected imaged light has an effective pixel resolution of less than 12 micrometers.
