The present invention relates to the field of nanoparticles, specifically to calcium oxide nanoparticles and polymeric nanocomposites comprising same, and the method for producing the nanoparticles from natural solid food byproducts/waste rich in calcium carbonate and a method for producing the polymeric nanocomposite, and the use thereof as an antimicrobial agent in films for protecting food from bacterial activity, said nanocomposite also being able to be used to prepare films for coating surfaces such as handrails, door handles, etc. which may come into contact with numerous people, or for medical or surgical instruments, or medical devices that require the instrument or device to be sterile or aseptic.
