A modular multi-level converter-based high-power motor driving system, which relates to the technical field of power generation, transformation or power distribution. The high-power motor driving system is composed of a modular multi-level converter (1) and a multi-pulse wave AC-AC frequency converter (2). The modular multi-level converter (1) outputs a k-phase high frequency AC voltage that has a phase difference of 2π/k. The multi-pulse wave AC-AC frequency converter (2) output a low frequency voltage to drive a corresponding motor. In the driving system, the modular multi-level converter (1) is combined with the multi-pulse wave AC-AC frequency converter (2), and by means of employing the modular multi-level converter (1) operating at a high frequency, the energy storage capacitance capacity, volume and weight of the modular multi-level converter (1) are reduced, the DC side voltage level of the modular multi-level converter (1) is increased, and the capacity of the driving system is improved; and by means of employing the multi-pulse wave AC-AC frequency converter (2), the output waveform quality at the motor side is ensured, and low-frequency control of the motor is achieved, which is suitable for driving high-power and low-speed motors.
