The rendering method comprises: receiving live streaming video stream data and a target special effect gift, and obtaining compositing position information of a live streaming video and the target special effect gift from the live streaming video stream data, the compositing position information comprising a target position where the target special effect gift obtained by identifying the live streaming video on the basis of a streamer client is composited on the live streaming video; adding, according to the compositing position information, the target special effect gift to the live streaming video for compositing to obtain a special effect frame image; and providing a special effect display area on a live streaming window, and synchronously rendering the special effect frame image on the special effect display area in the process of playing the live streaming video. According to the present technical solution, a virtual gift special effect is not only limited to a live streaming video playback area of a client, and rendering and displaying can be performed across the video playback area.
