Luminescent electrochemical cell with band-edge enhanced light emission due to chiral liquid crystal structure

A luminescent electrochemical cell device comprising a chiral liquid crystal material. The chiral liquid crystal material mixture of the device functions as both an electrolyte and a light emitting material. The chiral liquid crystal material mixture also forms a photonic crystal structure to produce a photon blocking band. The presence of the photon blocking band allows the luminescent electrochemical cell device to emit light with improved energy efficiency.
