The present invention relates to the installation and debugging of an air conditioner, and relates in particular to an active indoor unit detection method used for communication miswiring between indoor and outdoor units of an air conditioner, which aims to solve the problem in which existing miswiring detection methods cannot promptly detect a miswiring fault while effectively protecting a communication device. To this end, the method of the present invention comprises: after an air conditioning unit is powered on and before normal communication is carried out, a transmission port of an indoor unit outputs a high level; it is determined whether a receiving port of the indoor unit receives a periodic voltage pulse signal; if no periodic voltage pulse signal is received, there is no miswiring, and an outdoor unit and the indoor unit begin to communicate normally; otherwise, there is miswiring, and the steps of transmission, reception and determination are executed again. The present invention uses an indoor unit to send a high level for detection, and determines whether a miswiring fault occurs according to whether received data is a periodic voltage pulse signal, thus the speed at which a fault is locked in on is greatly increased, and an abnormal increase in the temperature of a communication device may be prevented.
