Easily absorbable copolymer composition for high-strength suture with improved strength retention after transplantation

For long-term medical applications, a novel surgical suture and a novel medical device made from a novel semi-crystalline, glycolide-rich ABA triblock copolymer are disclosed, wherein the B-segment is composed of glycolide and lactide. It is a completely amorphous random copolymer. The novel polymeric compositions are particularly useful for long-term absorbable surgical sutures, meshes and other medical devices for patients with poor healing. The novel suture has improved properties and improved breaking strength retention, but is still substantially absorbed within a period of about 120 days after implantation.
