SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SEX-SORTING OF PRE-ADULT INSECTS

The present invention discloses a system for sex separation of pre-adult insects. The aforementioned system comprises (a) a fluidic channel having an inner space and an outer wall, said fluidic channel comprising an inlet and at least one outlet, wherein said channel is configured to allow flow of pre-adult insects suspended in liquid media; (b) a processor; and, (c) a controller in-communication with said processor. According to core aspects of the invention, the fluidic channel comprises a classification region, and the classification region comprises an electro-optical module in-communication with the processor, the electro-optical module comprises at least one sensor configured to acquire optical data of an individual pre-adult insect and to transmit the optical data to the processor. The processor is configured to process the acquired optical data and to instruct the controller to sort the pre-adult insect based on the classification of the pre-adult insect. The present invention further discloses methods for sex separation of pre-adult insects.
