The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide a method for manufacturing a pulp fiber raw material with which it is possible to easily form a fiber composite reinforcing material that includes cellulose nanofibers with a low hemicellulose content. This manufacturing method is as follows. A method for manufacturing, from pulp fibers to be processed, a pulp fiber raw material for a fiber composite reinforcing material that includes cellulose nanofibers, wherein the method is characterized by including a pulp fiber raw material formation step in which ozone-containing gas is supplied to a processing liquid including the pulp fibers to be processed, whereby the pulp fiber raw material having a hemicellulose content of less than 8.0 mass% is formed from the pulp fibers to be processed.
