An electronic device according to various embodiments comprises: a storage including a file system; a memory; and at least one processor operatively connected to the storage and the memory, wherein the memory stores at least one instruction that enables, when executed, the at least one processor to receive an access request for a file or directory stored in a user data area of the file system, in response to the reception of the access request, store, in the memory, first information associated with the file or directory stored in the user data area, and display the size of the file or directory by using the first information stored in the memory, wherein the first information may include, when the first information is information associated with the file, information indicating the size of the file and, when the first information is information associated with the directory, information indicating a sum of the sizes of all subdirectories included in the directory and all files.
