The invention relates to a method for treating a mass of waste in order to separate organic matter from other matter. The waste, which is supplemented by one or more mineral complexes which have a particle size between 100 nm and 16 mm, a thermal stability greater than 150°C, a chemical stability which is not sensitive to pH, an Mohs hardness greater than 3 and a high exchange capacity greater than 2.50 meq/g, is introduced into a reactor, the mineral complexes being selected from the group consisting of zeolites, clays and carbonates and more specifically clinoptilolites, lithothamniums, chabazites or bentonites.
