Various embodiments are disclosed including a method for supporting a mobile network and a passive optical network (PON). In various embodiments, the baseband unit (BBU) is configured to measure the optical path delay from each of the plurality of remote radio units (RRUs) to the BBU during the initialization phase. The BBU synchronizes all RRUs in the mobile system by adjusting the timing of each path based on the optical path delay between each RRU and the BBU. The BBU determines a mapping rule for mapping each resource block allocated to each of the plurality of RRUs to other PON transport blocks. The BBU transmits the mapping rule to each of the plurality of RRUs. In certain embodiments, the mapping rules may be dynamically recalculated after the initialization step.
