PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dope for an optical film capable of suppressing aggregation of rubber particles and imparting an optical film having sufficient toughness without impairing transparency. In the method for producing a dope for an optical film of the present invention, rubber particles containing a crosslinked polymer having a degree of crosslinking of 0.25 to 4% by mass are dispersed in a first solvent to disperse the rubber particles. It includes a step of preparing a liquid and a step of mixing a rubber particle dispersion liquid, a methacrylic resin, and a second solvent to prepare a dope. Then, at least one of the first solvent and the second solvent contains water. The content of the water is 0.5 to 3% by mass with respect to the solvent constituting the dope.
