An Improved Mill for Cutting Furze into Small Fragments.

Roller mills.-Relates to a mill, for cutting up furze into small fragments without extracting the nutriment, composed of a pair of rollers c, d, built up of alternating toothed discs f and plain discs g, the toothed discs of the one roller working between those of the other, and of a plain roller e pressed down by weighted levers m. The furze, fed in over the table n, is carried forward by the rollers d, e to the cutting-roller c, which runs at a high speed and cuts the furze into small fragments. The roller c is fitted with a series of scrapers y pivoted on a bar y1; it is driven directly by a pulley on its shaft. The roller d is geared to a countershaft s, which is driven from the roller c by worm and bevel gearing. The frame consists of a base a and sides b divided diagonally.
