5673. Ellis, S. H., and Holt, T. March 27. Pottery ; enamelling.- A machine for dipping articles o f pottery o r glass in glaze or colour is constructed with a trough c, central shaft e, loose bushes a, radial spindles g, and cages for holding the articles. The cages containing the articles to be coated are turned down into the trough c by a handle d, fixed to the bush a, and are rotated in the liquid glaze o r colour b y a handle and bevel-wheelsf. Rotation of the cages about the shaft e is limited by stops projecting from the trough and a front table v. The table is constructed of four vertical bars 1, which are formed with lugs 2 for supporting plates or articles, and are connected by end rings 3. One bar is connected to the adjacent bar by pivoted arms, and is secured between the rings by sliding bolts forced outwards by springs. Radial arms of the lower ring 3 fit in undercut radial recesses in a head or table at the end of the spindle g, and are secured in place by a spring lever or catch. Conical hoods protect the wheels and bearings from the liquid glaze, and a quadrantal hood p over the trough is fitted with doors q closed by springs s. In a modification, a vertical support is fitted with adjustable sliding heads which are formed with projections adapted to hold ewers in position. For supporting basins, the bars 1 are notched to receive rings formed with radial ribs or supports. In each of these modifications, one vertical bar is pivoted to the lower ring and secured to the upper ring by a pivoted spring catch.
