Chain gearing.-Relates to means for keeping the driving-chain of a cycle or velocipede clean and lubricated when travelling, applicable when the chain is enclosed in a gear case, or in connection with the case described m Specification No. 10,597, A.D. 1899. A case A, preferably of aluminium, is attached to the cycle frame by means of a clip or clips C, and in it is fitted an oil container F. Between the container F and one or both ends of the case felt or textile material may be arranged to form a cleaning-pad J, or a wheel or roller provided with bristles or cloth may be arranged for the same purpose. The oil is supplied to the chain E through one or two wicks G or pads, which may pass through necks or openings provided with serrated edges to keep them in position. The pads J are preferably arranged below the level of the chain in driving, so as only to act on the chain when it is slack, as in descending a hill. When used with a gear case, a tube or opening is provided in the casing for feeding oil to the container. When used without a gear case, the case A is dispensed with, and the container is mounted in the box or case described in the Specification mentioned above, with or without the bushes or pads therein described.
