Piston pumps; centrifugal pumps; suction pipes. -The efficiency of fans, rotary blowers, and water pumps is increased by delivering the air or water through a taper pipe, the small end A of which is of the same diameter as the delivery aperture of the fan or pump and may have a curved entrance F ; the taper may be broken by a parallel piece K, Fig. 2. The taper piece may be inserted in the delivery pipe some distance from the fan or pump, or attached to the inlet of a fan.
