Relates to means for causing the braking effect to be dependent on the speed of the train, and thereby prevent the wheels from skidding as the train stops. The round disc 2 is carried by the three-armed lever 4, which is connected by the slotted links 5 to the bar 6 fulcrumed on the knifeedges 7 and 8 and having a pin 9 which normally seats the spring valve 3 in connection with the brake cylinder 11. The faster the train travels, the more the disc 2 is forced backwards, causing the pin 9 to hold the valve 3 closed. When, bowever, the brakes reduce the speed of the train to a certain limit, the spring 17 overcomes the thrust of the pin 9, and the valve 3 exhausts the brake cylinder. Fig. 1 shows the application to a system with main and auxiliary reservoirs. A regulating- valve 12 is connected to the train-pipe 15 by the pipe 13 and cock 14, and to the brake cylinder by the pipe 16.
