473. Evans, A. E. Jan. 8. Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims.-Relates to attaching rubber tyres to channelshaped wheel rims. The rim a has inturned edges a', which engage in side grooves b1 in the rubber tyre b, shown in Fig. 5 in the process of attachment. A split steel ring c, of slightly less diameter than that of the rim, is placed in one of the side grooves, and is then forced under the inturned edge of the rim into the position shown in Fig. 1. The tyre may be detached either by inserting a pneumatic-tyre lever through a slot in the rim or, as in the modification shown in Fig. 8, by pressing the bent projecting end c2 of the ring c. The end c2 normally projects through the rim, and is secured by a screw nut d. In a modified form, a split metal ring is placed under each edge of the rim.
