2540. Peterson, G. L. Feb. 6. Music notation. - The invention is specially applicable to music for a harp or zither. The music is written in paper or on a tablet which is placed adjacent to the strings of the instrument. The notation consists in employing numbers corresponding to the strings instead of the ordinary note signs, the numbers being disposed in two lines, one for the treble and one for the bass. In the example shown, the strings 8, 9 are played by themselves, then the string 10 in the treble along with the string 1 in the bass, after which the bass strings 3, 5 are sounded together and repeated three times, this repetition being indicated by the numeral 3 above the short line. The numbers 4, 4 on the left indicate, the one the measure, and the other the number of times the piece is to be repeated. The short lines in the treble indicate when the treble is silent.
