15,471. Breedon, J. July 30. Moulding ores.-Kaolin, slimes, and like earthy tenacious materials containing gold &c. are treated to convert them into tubular or channelled pieces suitable for furnacing preparatory to amalgamation, chlorination, &c. The slime is first partly dried on a heated table, moulded into tubes or channelled pieces, the tube being filled with inflammable material, then passed over heated shaking-tables and fed into a kiln or furnace. The pulpy matter is placed in a hopper heated by a flue, then fed by a cutting-apparatus D into the cylinder H, Fig. 2, of the moulding-machine, whence it is expressed through the tubular openings L by the piston P at the same time that inflammable material, such as sawdust impregnated with bituminous matter, is forced from the chamber N through the tubes M by the piston Q operated by the hydraulic apparatus S or in other suitable manner. The filled tubes of ore &c. pass through heated pipes B' and are cut into suitable lengths by a reciprocating cutter (not shown). The pieces are then delivered on to heated shaking-tables and finally fed to the kilns or roasting- chambers. In a modified form of moulding-apparatus, the pulp is formed into a strip W', Fig. 4, which passes before a cutting-plate G and is cut by it into hexagonal or other shaped pieces having holes or channels, which are filled with inflammable material from the hopper L3 by the reciprocating plate M' carrying plungers N3.
