23,666. Cole, T., Cole, W. L., and Acton Concrete Partition Co. Nov. 21. Moulding cement and concrete bricks, slabs, and tiles.-Fig. 13 shows a mould constructed of sheetmetal plates 32, 33, fitted between tongued and grooved ends pivoted to a bottom plate 31, and connected by a T-headed key 36, which is inserted through horizontal slots in the plates. A pressing- cover 38 is arranged to slide within the mould on a rod or core 37 fixed to the bottom x, and is acted on by a press head operated by crank discs 19 and connecting-rods 18. The upper ends of the mould sections are kept in place by a wire loop 34 or the like. In order to cause the concrete to settle in the mould, and facilitate the escape of air, the mould is placed, during the filling operation, on a slab 7 which is caused to vibrate by ratchet-wheels 6 driven by an endless chain. The filled mould is placed on the table of the press between retaining-plates 9, 10, fitting between channelled guides 12, whi h are forced inwards by cranks 13, connected by links 14, and controlled by a lever handle 11. The main shaft 20 of the press is driven by toothed gearing and a clutch which is automatically thrown out of action, when the press head is at the top of its stroke, by a stationary wedge-shaped cam-piece 21 engaging with an interrupted grooved cam disc of the clutch. The press is started by depressing a pedal 17, which is connected by levers to the wedge. The front 9 of the retaining-frame is pivoted to turn down for the removal of the mould, and the clutch is then locked by a lever, thrown into action by an arm of the front, to prevent the press from acting. The bottom of the mould is struck to vibrate it and push it from the press frame by a movable piece operated by levers and a treadle 26.
