Improvement in connexion with the Non Septic Purification and Utilisation of Sewage from Country Mansions and Large Houses.

Sewage and foul waters, treating; aÙrating; filtering-media; settling and decanting; manures.- Relates to the non-septic purification of sewage from country mansions and large houses. The sewage is admitted from the drain l by a hand valve i to a straining-channel A, of the form shown in section in Fig. 5, fitted with wire-gauze strainers whereby the solids are separated, in order that they may be thrown on the manure heap. The sewage passes from the channel A by a dip-pipe a into a tank B, similar in section to the channel A, and here any remaining solids settle and the grease separates. A second dip-pipe conducts the liquid to corrugated channels C provided with a check-plate b, and thence it passes to an automatic rotary sprinkler c which distributes it upon a filter bed composed of layers of coke, clinkers, polarite, sand, stones, &c. in a chamber D, which is provided with holes for admission of air. A sloping drop E conducts the liquid to the bottom of an upward filter F charged with gravel and sand, and thence the pure effluent flows off by a pipe h. The solids are cleared out of the channels and settling-tanks weekly, and the filters are renewed every three or four months.
