Punching; stamping; shearing. - Relates to clutch mechanism applicable for presses for stamping, punching, shearing, &c. sheet metals, and has for its object to provide automatic means for disengaging the driving - mechanism after each operation should the attendant neglect to do so. In the position shown, the driving-wheel C is running free on the shaft A, the arm a' on the key a being held up by a trigger E. When the trigger is drawn aside by a pull on the rod H acting through the forked lever F, which engages a wing on the trigger, the pressure of the spring a3, upon the arm a1 causes the key to turn and engage one of the keyways a' in the wheel when this in its movement arrives opposite to it, and thus to couple the parts together. If the attendant releases the pedal or lever connected to the rod H and allows the trigger to return to the position shown in the path of the arm, the key is moved out of engagement at the end of the revolution. Should he neglect to do this, a pin b on the disc B striking on the lever G causes the fork F to be moved endways so that its upper limb moves clear of the trigger which is then shot by its spring e. The levers F, G are returned to the normal position by a spring f 3.
