Manufacture of New Nitroalphylacidylamidonaphtholsulphonic Acids, Nitroalphylamidoacidylamidonaphtholsulphonic Acids, Amidoalphylacidylamidonaphtholsulphonic Acids or Amidoalphylamidoacidylamidonaphtholsulphonic Acids and New Azo-Colouring Matters Derived therefrom.
13,778. Imray, O., [Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basle]. June 17. Dyeing.-(1) Azo dyes are produced from certain nitroalphylacidyl- and nitroalphylamidoacidyl-amidonaphthol sulphonic acids by combining them in alkaline solution with aromatic diazo compounds, or by acting with acid chlorides of nitroalphyls on the azo dyes resulting from the combination of diazo componnds with amidonaphthol sulphonic acids. (2) Azo dyes are also produced by combining amidoalphylacidyl- or amidoalphyl-amidoacidyl-amidonaphthol sulphonic acids with diazo compounds, or by combining the acetylamidoalphylacidyl-amidonaphthol sulphonic acids with diazo compounds and then splitting off the acetyl group. These dyes may be diazotized in substance or on the fibre and combined with amines or phenols. (3) The amidoalphylacidyl- and amidoalphylamidoacidyl-amidonaphthol sulphonic acids are diazotized and combined with amines or phenols, and the resulting monoazo dyes are combined with diazo compounds in alkaline solution. Many of the foregoing dyes are suitable for the manufacture of lakes. Numerous examples of the production of dyes are given, in which the diazo compounds of the following substances are used :-Aniline, o- and p-toluidine, xylidine, cumidine, #-naphthylamine, chloranilines, m-nitraniline, #-naphthylamine-alpha- and #-sulphonic acids, alpha-naphthylamine-alpha- and #- sulphonic acids, dehydrothiotoluidine sulpbonic acid, and intermediate compounds, such as that obtained from equimolecular proportions of tetrazodiphenyl and salicylic acid or phenol. Dyes for mordanted cotton of orange red, red, blue-red, and violet-black shades, are thus produced. Development on the fibre by means of #-naphthol, or a diamine, produces fast yellow to blue-red, brownred, and black shades.
