Chlorates and perchlorates are made by the electrolysis of chloride solutions, such as sodium. chloride solution, which are kept non-alkaline by adding dilute hydrochloric acid, periodically or continuously. The additions of chromic compounds, described in Specifications No. 17,320, A.D. 1901, and No. 14,386, A.D. 1902, are dispensed with. The product required is periodically crystallized out by cooling the solution, and this is used again after addition of chloride.
