7810. Heaton, D., and Heaton, S. April 3. Refuse, collecting.-Fig. 1 shows a scoop for removing sludge &c. from gullies, drains, &c. The scoop proper A is attached to one wing of a hinge D, the other wing of which is bolted to the end of the handle B, but so as to be free to rotate about it. The scoop is passed into the refuse in the position shown by Fig. 1. It is then tilted into the position Fig. 2, and the handle B is rotated, to bring an arm G into position below the scoop and thus to lock it.
