Autographic registers ; receipts, recording.-A roll register for recording names, signatures, accounts, indexes, &c. so that they can be readily referred to, for use in banks, insurance offices, counting-houses, &c. or as an electoral register, is shown in vertical section and sectional plan respectively in Figs. 1 and 2. A box A is mounted on an extended base and provided at the top with a hinged lid A1, which may be inclined and beaded to form a small desk. A hinged frame or cover A' is provided at the front of the box, and an endless band C of paper is passed over the frame A', guided by small rollers B' ... B', and wound on and off large rollers B, B1. A duplicate frame A3, band E, guide-rollers, and winding-rollers D, D1 are shown, and the frames are represented as turned down for using the band E. The box may be provided with a front plate and a lock. The spindle of each winding-roller is provided with a pinion G, Fig. 2, preferably inside the box. The pinions of each pair gear with a large spur-wheel H on a shaft H1 provided with an external cranked handle H'. The pinions are preferably arranged as clutch members loose on the spindles and adapted to engage corresponding members G1 fixed to the rollers, each pair of pinions being engaged by arms G4 of a bar carried by a rotary rod G, provided with an external thumb-piece G5. A frictional contact or brake may be provided for the winding-rollers, for example, a rotary rod J, Fig. 2, provided with a head J4, and carrying a bar with arms J' and springs J3.
