Bricks; building- blocks. - Blocks or bricks A for arches of bridges, furnaces, fireplaces, vaults, doorways, &c. are made of tapered or wedge shape, with rounded interlocking recesses and projections B, D, and upper central transverse ribs or beads E to keep them in place when they are laid to break joint. Fig. 3 shows a centre block or keystone formed with a rib D at each side, and Fig. 5 shows a block for furnaces and fireplaces with a pointed lower end to form channels in the arch. The blocks are laid without mortar or binding- material.
