Raw materials, treating; waste products, treatment and utilization of.-Relates to a process for cleaning waste paper and producing paper pulp therefrom. The waste paper is first sorted, then subjected to a tearing or beating operation either in a moist or dry condition, kneaded in a suitable kneading-machine to further reduce it but not to entirely divide the fibres, subjected to the action of a soap solution in a washer, the soap solution being composed of olien or Japan fish oil and soda. The washed pulp is drained by a sudden suction action, to withdraw the printer's ink along with the soap solution, and then, kneaded, washed, and rinsed in a solution containing less pulp, and finally rinsed in clean water. The soap may be separated by settling or filtration, and may be used over and over again. The Provisional Specification states that the soap recovery process is part of the subject matter of Specification No. 13,255, A.D. 1900.
