Laying dust in mines, tunnels, &c.-Dust is laid and air is moistened and purified in tunnels and other underground places by discharging liquid in the form of a spray screen from travelling vessels by the pressure of air which has been produced by charging the vessels with liquid in a manner such as is described in Specifications Nos. 9481 and 16,246, A.D. 1901, [Abridgment Class Hydraulic machinery &c.]. As shown in Fig. 1, airtight and water-tight tanks 1, 1a, with overhanging ends, are carried by bogies, the intermediate bogies supporting the adjacent tanks. The tanks are connected in series, and the end tank 1a is reserved for compressed air, entrance of liquid being prevented by a ball valve 6. The other end tank is provided with a spraying-nozzle, preferably formed as a cone-shaped casing 16 fitted with a conical plug 17. This tank also has an alarm consisting of a float 10, which closes the outlet valve 12 when the liquid is nearly exhausted, and at the same time opens a whistle 14.
