25,684. Denison, J. H. B., and Keeff, T. Nov. 22. See-saws.-A beam A turns about a cross spindle B journalled in pedestal brackets C, or about wedge-shaped trunnions. The beam is provided with wicker &c. chairs D, which can be moved along the beam. The balance and the automatic action of the see-saw is provided for in several ways. Arms, rigidly attached by set-screws F to the spindle B, at any angle, have weights attached to favour a light load and to assist the working by pendulum motion. A weight H can be fixed anywhere along a slide G, and so can assist the balance. A weight J, which slides along a rod K, has a bell-crank lever L attached to it, the arm M of which strikes the ground and moves the weight J towards the fulcrum, thus allowing the other side of the beam to descend more easily. The weight J may be heavy enough to balance a child. The stretching and compressing of springs 0 assist the working. A trolley P runs alternately from one side of the track Q to the other. Pivoted pawls R on the track catch the trolley, and release it when the end S strikes the ground. In a modified form of the invention, spiral or other springs are attached to the beam under the seat D, and these give a rebound. The beam may be strengthened by wire ties. In place of the trolley P, a spherical body may be employed, the pawls R being dispensed with.
