3544. Clark, H. D. Feb. 14. Corpes and bodies, treatment and disposal of.- Relates to means for locking and securing coffins in graves. The coffin rests on an anchor frame, and is covered by a metal hood which is fastened to the frame. The anchor frame consists of a central longitudinal bar or plate 1, Fig. 1, carrying cross-bars 2 connected at their outer ends by side bars 3 carrying channel-shaped keepers 4 at the ends. The inner walls 4b of the keepers are higher than the outer walls 4a, and carry spring strips 5 on their outer faces. The frame is anchored in position ac the bottom of the grave means of bars 9 driven through openings 6, 8 in the lower parts of the walls of the keepers and in the end flanges 7 of the central bar 1, into the side walls of the graves. Vertical pins 10, Fig. 4, may be afterwards driven through the ends of the bars 9 into the earth. The coffin rests upon the frame between the inner walls 4b of the keepers and the end flanges 7 of the bar 1, and is covered by a metal hood 12, Fig. 3, resting in the channels of the keepers. The spring strips 5 engage with latch-plates 14 on the inner edge of the bottom flange 13 of the hood, and prevent the hood from being removed.
