15,535. Garlick, W. July 14. Weeds, destroying.-An instrument for extracting weeds from grass lawns, bowling greens, &c. consists of a slotted tube a fitted with a suitable handle f. The edge of the open end of the tube is sharp and, when pressed down upon the weed, cuts out a plug of earth h containing the root. The end of the handle fits into the tube and is shaped so as to form an inclined plane g at the back of the slot to force the weed out when the tube is pressed down again. The holes left in the lawn are filled by plugs of good turf cut by the instrument.
