Settings &c.-Fillers 9, 91, 92, 93, 94 of wood or other combustible, compressible, or destructible material are placed between the bricks at the joints of ore roasting and other furnaces, flues, or chambers, which are subjected to high and varying temperatures, so as to prevent distortion due to expansion and contraction of the walls. The fillers and bricks may be of any one of the forms shown, the fillers 91, 93 having brick cores. Chequerwork fillings and linings may be similarly constructed.
