Couplings, non - automatic.-To prevent the pin from being jerked out of the coupling- shackles in railway wagons and miners' corves o r trams, the form shown in Fig. 1 is used. The round pin a has oval collars forming the shoulders b, d, and the top is flattened into the shape shown. The end c is made larger than the opening in the top arm of the shackle e. To remove the pin, the end c is pushed to the left, and the top to the right, and the shoulders d, b lifted through the corresponding holes in the lower and upper arm of the shackle. The end c can then be lifted through the hitching-plate f. Coupling is performed in the reverse manner. The lower arm of the shackle extends beyond the upper, enabling the hitching-plate to be easily guided into position.
