1384. Chambers, G. J., and Fulham Pottery and Cheavin Filter Co. Jan. 20. Kilns; smoke-consuming.-Air is admitted to the furnace gases in pottery kilns by one or more flues, the width of which is co-extensive with the width of the furnace. Figs. 1 and 2 show a front view and a sectional elevation of a kiln which is provided with the single air flue b above the furnace space a1, the flue being of the same width as the furnace. The flue may be tapered, as shown, or it may be of uniform dimensions except at its discharge orifice, where it is tapered. The opening b1 to the fire-hole a3 is provided. The fire-door c2 carries the air-supplying door c6 in such a way that, on the furnace being charged, the air-supplying door must be opened, the latter, however, being capable of opening independently of the former. The doors may be hung guillotine fashion, or arranged for lateral movement, or they may be hinged in the ordinary manner.
