摘要
2541. Ray, J. W. Feb. 3. Telegraphs, mechanical.-In ships' telegraphs and like signalling-apparatus, specially applicable to automatic reply telegraphs, the angularly-moving part 6p or 6s to which movement is imparted by the reply transmitter or the like is provided with the notched cam 8p or 8s, while the indicator operated by the moving chain-pulley or part has attached to it the tumbler 9p or 9 . The parts shown in Fig. 2 are in duplicate, being suitable for a twin - screw engine. The chain - pulleys 6p, 6s, are connected to the weigh-shaft of the reversing-link of the port or starboard engine, the connection being direct or through a device such as is described in Specification No. 13,016, A.D. 1893. The cams and tumblers shown in Figs. 5 and 7, have engaging and locking portions so arranged that, while the tumbler is locked in mid position, the cam has a free movement within limits, and so that, when the cam moves beyond the limits in either direction, the tumbler is moved accordingly and locked in position. The axis of the tumbler may be at right-angles to the axis of the cam, or the axis may be parallel. Springs keep the tumbler and cam in contact and take up wear. The reply indicating-device may be a pointer, or a shutter on which the orders are printed moving behind a slot.
