Rollers and roller heads; twist tubes; creel arrangements; special yarns, producing; processes; yarns and threads.-Relates to the drawing and twisting or spinning of worsted, woollen, cotton, silk, and other yarns or threads, and comprises an improved method of and means for drawing and twisting the yarns and, if desired, combining with them one or more yarns or threads to produce a mixed yarn or thread or one with a cotton or other core. The primary object is to effect in a continuous machine all that is now done upon the self-acting mule. The material is drawn from condenser bobbins g, supported upon inclined brackets s and driven drums r, and are passed between wire guides t and two sets of drawing- rollers h, i to the spindles. The Figure shows a third supplementary set of three rollers j, j1, which may be-used or not, as desired. When the rollers j, j1 are not used, the rollers i are provided with a third roller corresponding to j1. Between the rollers h, i, the roving passes over and under one or more of a series of rods m mounted on an adjustable bracket k, and afterwards through a twist tube n carrying on its forward end a suitable guide-eye p. The distance between the nip of the rollers h and the nearest of the rods m is less than the length of the staple of the shortest fibre to be spun, but the particular rods over and under which the material is passed may be varied according to the length of the staple. The drawing of the fibre takes place between the rods m and the nip of the rollers h, and the twisting between the spindle and the nip of the delivery rollers. When a second thread is to be combined with the spun thread, it is drawn from a separate creel, and united with the spun thread at the rollers j or other suitable part of the machine.
