Yarns, sizing and beaming. - The square press shaft 5 for putting pressure on the warp beam of sizing-machines is fitted with a friction device, to obtain a more even pressure. The device consists of three metal discs 1, 2, 3 alternating with two discs 4 of wood, cardboard, or like material, and the discs 2, 4 are loosely mounted on the shaft 5 and prevented from relative movement by pins 12 on the disc 2 engaging recesses in the discs 4. A slotted bracket bolted to the frame engages a projection from the disc 2 and prevents its rotation, and two diametrically-opposite slots 7 concentric with the shaft are made in the discs 2, 4. The discs 1, 3 are fixed to the shaft, and bolts 10, fitted with thumb-nuts for adjusting the friction, are passed through holes in these discs and through the slots 7. The usual weighted lever is fixed on the shaft 5, which may turn through about 90‹, the slots 7 permitting this movement of the bolts. When the shaft 5 has an endwise movement, the projection on the disc 2 carries a bowl engaging the slotted bracket. In a modification, the disc 2 may be fixed on the shaft, and the outer discs 1, 3 loosely mounted and formed with projections engaging the slotted bracket.
