Special yarns, producing. - In order to produce rough, or lumpy yarns, the speed of the retaining-rollers on the shafts m is periodically accelerated, the speed of the drawing-rollers remaining constant. The shaft m carries a wheel w, driven by the pawls p1, on a free wheel p, driven by the gearing q, r, s from the shaft t of the drawing- roller. The speed of the shaft m is accelerated by means of a pawl and ratchet-wheel o fixed to the shaft m. The pawl is carried by brackets which are driven by slotted rods h, and are periodically oscillated by means of the projections g1 on the cam g, which bear against rollers i, secured by pin and slot arrangements to the rods h. The cam disc g‹ is driven through the change wheels e, f and wheels c, b from the cylinder axle a. The amount of acceleration given to the speed of the retaining-roller is adjusted by altering the throw given to the bracket by the eccentric gear, or, as described in the Provisional Specification, by having a radial slot in the disc-wheel.
