Conductors.-An appliance for gripping and supporting the wires of overhead systems of electric traction is formed of a pair of gripping-arms a, b shaped to grip the wire w and carried in a box or bracket c. The upper ends of the arms are shaped so as to form a hinge joint, the arm a being fixed by a screw d, while the arm b is acted upon by a wedge-bolt e, f, or its equivalent, such as sliding blocks, or pairs of wedges. The gripping-device may have two or more pairs of gripper-arms, and splicing ears may have two pairs at each wire end. For frogs, points, or like fittings, the boxes c, containing the gripper-arms, are cast on the fitting at the points where the wires are to be joined to the same.
