The rotary shaft 4 is provided with two discs 6 to which are pivoted at 8 weighted arms or links 7, preferably provided with rollers 9, which engage in a curved race-way in a part attached to the drill. The arms 7 are connected with springs secured to the discs to minimize shock &c. and to accelerate the reciprocating movement. Arms may be substituted for the discs 6. In the arrangement shown, the reciprocating part moves between rollers 10, the drill is rotated by a ratchet or other device 14, and a feed-screw 15 and a supporting-slide 17 are provided.
