20,919. Gr³neberg, C. Sept. 29. Machines for making.-In brush drilling and tufting machines, the work-holders 14, 15 are carried by vertical and horizontal slides 13, 11 on a sliding sleeve 2, which, with the shaft 3 journalled in the sleeve, is reciprocated by an eccentric on the main shaft, to move the work to and from the drilling and tufting tools. The shaft 3 is provided with cams 4, 5 for actuating the vertical and horizontal slides, to feed and position the brush stocks with respect to the tools. Separate actuating and locking wheels 6, 7 are provided for the shaft 3, the ratchet teeth on the wheel 7 being set in the opposite direction to those on the wheel 6. The wheel 7 is locked, after each feed movement, by the pivoted detent 30, Fig. 5, and is disengaged by the fixed lifting bolt 31, Fig. 1, on the backward movement of the sleeve 2 &c. The ratchet-wheel 6 is driven by the detent 26 on the sliding-bar 23, which is actuated in one direction by a fixed wedge-shaped bolt working in the slot 28, Figs. 4 and 5, in the bar, the return movement of the bar being effected by the spring 34, The cam 5 engages a roller on the slide 11, and at each movement actuates this slide, to move the stock horizontally through the distance between consecutive holes of the horizontal rows to be formed. When one horizontal row of holes is finished, the stock is moved vertically into position for commencing another horizontal row, by the action of the cam 4, which operates the vertical slide 13 through the lever 19 and bar 21. The lever 19 is pivoted on the adjustable bracket 18, and is provided with a roller 20 engaging in the slot 17 in the slide 13. The Provisional Specification refers to the invention in connection with the manufacture of tooth brushes.
