21,809. Bradshaw, T. Oct. 10. Yarns, warping.-In a sectional warping-machine, means are provided whereby the warp threads, as they pass on to the section s, are traversed laterally so as to pass on to the section at constantly varying points. To effect this, the warps are threaded through a raithe or reed, Fig. 3, equal in width to the length of the section, and consisting of a series of wire units a with two, three, or more openings, a half-beer being passed through each opening. Each unit a is fastened to a link b of a chain, rotatably mounted on pinions, or preferably on a fixed block c formed with rounded ends. The chain comprises four rows of links, the two front rows carrying the units a, and the two back rows being formed with spur teeth, so that the chain may be driven by a pinion d mounted on a spindle e which is carried by a sleevef, Fig. 1, fixed to a bracket g. The pinion d is mounted in a recess in the block c, which is screwed to a plate h carried by the sleeve f. The plate h overhangs at its edges to enclose the chain and keep it free from dirt, and the block c is formed with a small flange cÎ. The spindle e is rotated by bevel gearing q, p from a mangle-wheel j, which is driven alternately in opposite directions in the usual manner by a pinion on the end of a swivelling shaft m rotated by worm gearing o from the section shaft n. The warps pass from the usual fixed reed u, through the traversing raithe, under a tension bar t, and over the measuring-roller r to the section s, or the warps may pass directly from the raithe to the section as shown in dotted lines. Each unit a describes half a revolution, more or less, round the block c, and then moves back the same distance, so that the threads pass on to the section at constantly varying points, each in turn passing into the angles. Every end thus runs as long as any other. and all are of equal length when on the section. The traversing raithe may consist of a rotary disc with holes or slots, or a spoked wheel. Guides, adjustably mounted on a cross-rail, may may be employed to keep the warp threads within the limits of the section.
