Improvements in connection with Holding, Retaining, or Securing Removable Leaves of Albums, Letter Files, Specimen, Account and other Books and the like in Covers, and the Appliances connected therewith.
24,555. Stevens, R. T. Nov. 12. Filing papers &c.-Relates to a device for holding the leaves of albums, letter files, specimen, account, and other books and the like, so that any leaf may be readily removed and replaced. In the back edges of the leaves are formed shaped notches B, which are engaged by a mechanism in the back of the cover of the album or other book. Two or more brackets or shoes E, of metal or other material, are attached to the cover D, and a rod F is placed across each. To each end of the cover is attached a spring H, operated by a lever J pivoted at K. The leaf is placed in position, one of the springs being compressed by the lever, and the other lever is closed, locking the leaf in position. In a modification, each bracket 0, Fig. 7, has a bridge P and two springs R which enter notches M in the edge of the leaf. A rod T having a knob S and projections U, runs through the centre of the back. When the rod is turned partly round, the projections come between the springs R, forcing them apart and securing the leaf. A rod may be operated at each end of the cover, and, for large leaves, the mechanism may be multiplied. The back edges of the leaves may be separate strips of cardboard, paper, sheet metal, celluloid, or the like, attached to the leaves by a strip of calico or the like.
