24,387. Hofmann, A. Nov. 10. Printing yarns.-Relates to a machine, shown in plan in Fig. 1, for printing stripes on warp yarns, by passing inked rollers across the said yarns. The rollers 1 are mounted on levers 2 pivoted on centres 3. These are attached to a carriage 4 running on guide-rails 13, and also carrying the inking-troughs 5. A separate set of fixed frames at each end of the machine carries the pivoted levers 6, the inward ends of which are connected through strings to a jacquard apparatus. In the stationary position of the carriage, the levers 2 rest under the levers 6, and when the latter are actuated by the jacquard machine, the former have the roller ends lifted out of the dye. At the same time, swinging catches suspended from the other ends of the levers 2, engage with flat bars 10, pivoted transversely to the framework, and hold the rollers in the upper or printing position. The carriage is then moved forward by a rope 14 through gearing shown, which is put into operation by a handle 27. The yarn is carried on a carrier 42, which is square in transverse section, pivoted on an axis 40, attached to a frame 41. The corners 38 of the carrier are formed separately, and hinged to the main part, being forced outwards and kept in place by rods inside the carrier. These corners may be drawn into the carrier by the rods and other mechanism inside, to facilitate putting on the warp yarns. The rollers, in passing under the carrier 42, print the required stripes on part of the yarn. As the carriage passes on, weights, suspended from the bars 10 to which they are rigidly attached, strike the stops 12 and twist the bars. This results in the release of the aforesaid catches attached to the levers 2, and allows the rollers 1 to drop back into the ink trough. A stop 47 on the carriage then engages with the starting gear through the link 34, and stops the frame, a buffer 35 and a catch 37 holding the frame in place under another set of levers actuated from the jacquard machine. The yarn carrier 42 is then turned through 90‹, presenting an unprinted surface of the yarn to the rollers on their return.
