In the form shown, a spindle A, which reciprocates with a valve (not shown), carries inclined planes C, D acting on a roller F controlled by an adjustable spring G. The inclined planes are adjusted apart on a fixed sleeve B by a screw E. The sleeve B is supported on antifriction rollers K held in place by end-plates L. The roller F is carried on a spindle which is mounted between guided rods F2. The inclined planes may be formed on separate adjustable sleeves having engaging tongues and grooves. In some cases, the sleeve may be dispensed with. The positions of the inclined planes and roller may be interchanged.
