Vaporizing by air blast; f r a c - tional distillation, apparatus f o r; heating, s p e c i a l m e a n s for.-In a process and apparatus for distilling liquids without loss of distillate by the "blowing off" of the expanded air, the operation is conducted in a closed circuit, the air being withdrawn from the condenser and forced through a heating-coil and back into the still, or as an alternative, compressed gas, is heated, passed through the still and condenser, and absorbed or stored in any suitable manner. The process is applicable for fractional distillation, e.g., of petroleum, for the separation of liquids from solids, and in processes for the extraction of oils, tallow, &c., by means of volatile solvents. The still a, heated by the steam coil b, communicates through the neck c and condensing-worm d with the condenser g, whence air is continuously withdrawn by the pump k and forced through the heating- coil n and perforated pipe r back into the still. When the still contains a solid substance the air enters it from the top through a central chamber having perforations around its lower edge, or the still may be so arranged that the hot air enters it at the top and the vapours escape at the bottom.
