13,182. Thompson, W. P., [Smith, R.]. June 10. Sweeping-machines.-Relates to means for collecting the sweepings. In front of the rotary brush F, Fig. 1, which is somewhat larger than usual, is a trough I into which the refuse is swept, guard-plates i being provided. A pair of right and left handed worm conveyers J carry the refuse to the central part of the trough, from which it is moved by an endless chain of rakes L into the hopper M, from which it passes by the elevator N and discharging- trough O into a suitable cart Q attached by a coupling bar R and pin S. The dust cart may be attached in front or may form pait of the sweeping-machine. The brush is raised by a chain and counterpoised hand-lever, which at the same time puts the brush and conveyers out of gear by means of a clutch. The rake chain consists of links T, Figs. 3 and 4, having fins t and hinge projectiors t1, t2, the links being hollowed at t4 to admit the sprocket teeth.
